Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy

For Medical and Dental Professionals in the Santa Clarita area that are interested in knowing more about the services we can provide to you and your clients, request our information package.  This package includes informative brochures and a free IMDHA DVD and audio CD further explaining the benefits of Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy.

Below is a brief summary of the Certified Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Program as put together by the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association (IMDHA).

Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Objectives are:

  1. Aid the physician by preparing the patient, thereby enhancing the healing process.

  2. Aid the physician in bringing the patient to a state of wellness.

  3. Reinforce the physician's "orders" and give suggestions for continued speedy recovery.

  4. Aid the Hospital or health care facility in the performance of their function to:
    * Meet the requirements of D.R.G.
    * Reduce the amount of drugs the patient would normally require, especially in the control of pain.

  5. Reduce the fear and anxiety associated with surgical procedures and catastrophic illness.

  6. Assist the family in reducing their anxiety.

  7. Teach the family members appropriate suggestions to reinforce the physician's and hospital staff's efforts on behalf of the patient.

  8. Teach the patient how to use self-hypnosis after the hospital stay to control pain and aid in his/her healing process.

  9. Help prepare the family for what they will feel as they wait for results of surgery, tests, etc.; as they see their beloved in ICU; and to dispel any negative feelings in order to create peace and harmony within themselves.

Expansion:  In addition to medical challenges the Certified Hypnotherapist helps persons deal effectively with non-medical problems. Finding solutions to self-sabotaging habits leads to peace of mind and control of negative behavior. Self Empowerment is the goal.

Benefits of Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy are:

  1. The DOCTORS will have available a highly trained Hypnotherapist upon whom they can call. This Hypnotherapist will work in close harmony with the doctors.

  2. The HOSPITAL will benefit from a shorter patient stay in their facility because of the patient's increased response to getting well and going home. This will aid the hospital in decreasing costs of operation while increasing services to the patient and aid in meeting the requirements of short-term care.

  3. The PATIENT will have an opportunity to learn how to control his/her mind with the assistance of an empathetic and skilled Hypnotherapist.

  4. The FAMILY of the patient will have an opportunity to become a partner in effecting change. This is done through group and/or private sessions.

  5. The COMMUNITY AT LARGE will benefit as each person becomes able to produce positive reactions through the use of Self-Hypnosis.

This program is designed as a WIN-WIN situation for all involved.

Methods to be used:

For Your Special Patient

  1. Pre-hospital session to explain the use of Hypnotherapy in recovery in our office.
  2. Pre-operative session at the bedside in Intensive Care Unit.
  3. Post-operative session at the bedside in Intensive Care Unit.
  4. Post-operative session at the bedside in the patient's room.
  5. Follow-up visit in our office or medical facility to teach self-hypnosis and/or pain control.

For You the Physician

  1. Communication with attending physician and staff with the Post-Hypnotic Suggestion given to the patient to be used during surgery.
  2. Communicate with doctor following surgery for any particular suggestion the patient may need to have at that time.
  3. Our Hypnotherapists are ready and willing to assist the doctor and his/her staff in helping the patient through the immediate challenge.

For the Patients Family

  1. Family and patient pre-admission hospital visit with an explanation of how hypnotherapy works. This can be done in a group session.
  2. Give family members particular key positive suggestions to use when visiting the patient.
  3. Have family members experience hypnosis in a group and give them a post-hypnotic suggestion to relieve their anxiety.

All of the above methods are designed to relieve fear and panic. A patient who is looking at surgery and the hospital stay as a challenge and a way to recover has a far better chance of prolonging life. Speaking to the subconscious by directly bypassing the critical judgmental conscious mind is the quickest way to achieve results. This format may be adapted to patients other than those facing surgery.

Michael will come to your office to answer any questions you may have.   He can work with you and your patient in your office if desired.  You can see exactly the kind of service that your patients are getting.  The key to our service is flexibility for medical professionals like yourself.

"I look forward to meeting you and learning more about how I can assist you and your team!" Michael G. Holt
